The International | Netflix
Last night, I settled in to watch the 2009 action-thriller movie, "The International," which is currently available on Netflix. Directed by Tom Tykwer, the film stars Clive Owen and Naomi Watts and delves into the world of global finance, corrupt banking practices, and political intrigue.
The plot follows an Interpol agent, played by Owen, and a Manhattan Assistant District Attorney, played by Watts, as they collaborate to expose a high-profile financial institution's involvement in international arms dealing, money laundering, and other illicit activities. The storyline is gripping, filled with twists and turns that keep viewers captivated.
Clive Owen's performance is particularly noteworthy, and it's no wonder he was once considered for the iconic James Bond role. His portrayal of the determined Interpol agent in "The International" showcases his versatility as an actor, adept at handling intense action sequences and dramatic moments.
Speaking of action, the film features several heart-pounding shootouts and chase scenes, all expertly choreographed and executed. A standout moment takes place at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City, where an exhilarating and visually impressive gunfight unfolds amid the museum's iconic architecture.
While the movie is undoubtedly engaging, I noticed that the streaming quality on Netflix, even at the highest settings, doesn't quite measure up to Blu-Ray. The compression used by Netflix results in a loss of detail and depth in the visuals, which can be especially noticeable during fast-paced action scenes. For the most immersive experience, I recommend watching "The International" on Blu-Ray if possible.
1917 | 4K UltraHD
1917, directed by Sam Mendes, is a film that is not to be missed. The movie is a cinematic experience that is delivered in 4K CinemaScope 2.39:1 along with both Dolby Atmos and Dolby TrueHD 7.1 soundtracks. The image clarity is beyond superb, even in more challenging low light scenes, whether it is in a dimly lit bunker or during a night scene. The cinematography is just amazing, and the one-shot scenes are something that has never been experienced to that degree before, and it really sets the film apart from other wartime movies.
The story is set in the midst of World War I and follows two young soldiers, Schofield and Blake, on a mission to deliver a message that could potentially save the lives of 1600 men, including Blake's brother. The film takes the audience on an emotional journey as the soldiers navigate the dangerous and unpredictable terrain of the Western Front. The film's attention to detail and the use of real locations and practical effects bring a level of realism to the film that immerses the audience in the story.
1917 is a film that is not only a must-see in the theaters but also a must-have in a home theater collection. It is a film that is visually stunning, emotionally impactful, and technically brilliant. The film is a true testament to the power of cinema, and it is a film that will stay with you long after the credits roll.
